Stonewall, the LGB charity who once supported the ban, found no evidence from a 2 year review as to why the ban is in place. "the current system of protecting our blood supply is failing. The policy of excluding entire groups because of their sexual orientation fails to address the risks posed to the blood supply by heterosexual donors who engage in risky behaviour"

National Aids Trust

The National Aids Trust (NAT) is "not convinced by the justifications for the ban on Men who have sex with men (MSM) giving blood".

National Union of Students

Peter Tatchell

Image of Peter TatchellPeter Tatchell, long time human rights activist, gay rights advocate and Green Party MP has consistently stated he feels the blood ban is discrimination. In his article "Bloody bigots" he says "The NBS gay blood ban is based on the ill-informed, homophobic presumption that all gay and bisexual men are "high risk" for HIV, regardless of their individual sexual behaviour. This is nonsense. Most gay men do not have HIV and will never have HIV. "
